A
sport with a long standing tradition. In St. Moritz
you will find the best conditions for your favorite
skating style, be it classical ice skating or rough and
tough ice hockey, be it on the frozen lake or inside an
artificial skating rink.
Located at the river mouth of the Inn the arena replaces
the complex that was built in 1968 and now offers room
for 800 people. The arena is located between the Inn
(which is called La Sela above the lake) and the riding
court, which is nearly one hundred years old. Three
buildings set on an elevated base together with the
grandstand create an almost intimate atmosphere around
the skating rink. The famous sun of St. Moritz and the
star light sky make for the most beautiful roof. The new
skating arena of Ludains in St. Moritz has a
restaurant with 80 seats outside and 30 inside, a gym,
training room and modern changing rooms.
Figure skating in St. Moritz has a tradition which
is a century old. Skating teachers of
world renown would give skating lessons on close to
twenty skating rinks. Quite often shows on ice would be
presented, where participants gave proof of the highest
standards in costuming, technique and acrobatic stunts.
Of course, ice hockey would be played, too, as well as
bandy, which was its predecessor, played with sticks
curved at the lower end.
The first ice skating rinks of St. Moritz were those of
the Kulm Hotel, Suvretta House, Palace Hotel and of the
former
Hotel Chantarella. |
