St.Moritz General Overview

You may not be familiar with the title, The Upper Engadin, but we are willing to bet you are very well versed with the manes of some of the component resorts that are included in the area. I will wager that you recognise at least one of the following. Try, St. Moritz, Celerina, Silvaplana and Pontresina, plus a few others dotted about the landscape and included on one very useful lift pass. The name St. Moritz has a worldwide reputation, and it deserves it. However the other players in this league are better than your average ski resort in their own right. Together they present a tremendous delight of skiing possibilities.

In St. Moritz, for example, the Corviglia ski area directly above the glitzy town presents enough skiing to satisfy most skiers for an entire week. Consider if you will that lifts and mountain trains leaving from both St. Moritz Dorf and St. Moritz Bad (that is how the village is divided), can whisk skiers to enjoy world class skiing and world class scenery, on an incredibly varied and huge skiers playground.

However, if you were to limit yourself to these slopes, you would not be getting full value of either your lift pass or your holiday. There's a big, wide, wonderful ski world out there. At Silvaplana for example the Corvatsch ski area is the main draw. Here skiing is primarily suited to more experienced skiers, as a lot of the selection here requires skill and experience. This section also features a limited selection of glacier skiing for those who simply must say they skied St. Moritz, and choose to visit the region in summer. Silvaplana, is a small, quiet village about 10 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of St. Moritz, and is marginally cheaper than its better known neighbour.

Celerina is the closest resort to St. Moritz, and shares most of its slopes with its well known neighbour. Pontresina is more autonomous than the other villages, as well as being larger, and boasts its own impressive ski terrain. It too has a glacier, The Diavolezza, just outside of town. This is the one you should ski if you would like to do some serious summer skiing.

In any event, on the one lift pass, one can ski any of the above, or anywhere in between. So extensive and varied is the skiing.
