This page is specially
presented by skiswitzerland.com for quick download and printing Champery on it's own, and the skiing directly above it, is a very nice combination of a typical Swiss mountain village with some very good skiing. I do not hesitate to recommend it. Champery, as part of the Portes Du Soleil, is one of the best packages in the alps. Try this on for size. Thirteen resorts in two countries, more than six hundred kilometers of slopes, one hundred and ninety lifts, and one reasonably priced ski pass. Reasonably priced means around 170 Francs for a six day period. The skiing is truly superb. My goodness, with so many skiable kilometers how could it not be? A great new cable car from near the centre of Champery is your transport to the ski action. From the moment you step out of it and strap on your skis, you can look in any direction and ski runs stretch in fron of you as far as the eye can see. Almost all of it can be skied without motorized transport, the exception being Les Gets in France. I believe you could ski in this area for a month and not ski the lot. From Champery it is recommended that you ski over to A voriaz in France for an interesting outing. Have lunch there, then ski a bit on the French side before heading back. The run back is also quite an experience. Nicknamed "the wall", the length, bumps and sheer steepness have destroyed many a decent skier who was not as fit as he or she reckoned. It might be advisable to ride the chair down if you are either tired or lack confidence. The resorts that make up this International ski centre are Champery, Morgins, Torgon, Val-d Illiez, Champoussin and Les Crosets. The French entries are Avoriaz, Abondance, La Chapelle, Chatel, Les Gets and Morzine. If you have the time, try to ski to each of them. It will make a great ski holiday. There is a useful ski map put out by the collective tourist offices. It shows specific routes to the different villages and is a tremendous help in day planning. I hasten to add that there is skiing for all standards here, so beginners and weaker skiers should not feel intimidated. Champery is a super little village. The home grown folks are friendly, and for such a small town there sure is a lot going on. Price wise this area is very good value. The ski pass is a downright bargain considering what you get, and hotels cover the whole range. |
